Free WiFi on Alaska Airlines, But Only If You're Flying Within Alaska

October 26, 2010 at 9:00 AM | by | Comments (0)

If you find yourself up in the air over Alaska anytime soon, you won’t have any problem checking your email or getting a head start on a little online holiday shopping. Alaska Airlines has been hard at work to add WiFi to their fleet, and now they’re proud to announce the ability to connect at 35,000 feet between Anchorage and Fairbanks.

To celebrate their recent accomplishment, the airline is offering complimentary—as in totally free—access to those traveling between the two cities. The service will be free until the rest of their planes within the Alaskan network get the necessary internet goodies installed.

Just as a reminder, Alaska Airlines utilizes Gogo to get things going up in the sky. In-flight WiFi has been available in the lower 48, but thanks to Alaska another state is now added to the WiFi list. Unfortunately we don’t think there are any plans for Hawaiian Airlines to bring the magic of in-flight WiFi to the islands of Aloha and the Pacific anytime soon, but we can always dream.

Alaska Airlines expects their whole fleet to be fully equipped with Gogo by early 2011, and we’re thinking that the Alaskan infrastructure will be completed by the time the calendar ticks over to 2011. If you’re curious to see if you might score WiFi on your next trip, be sure to check out their online tracker right here.
