Southwest, Lufthansa, and American Airlines Lead The New Route News This Week
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Southwest Airlines:
Y’all want some free bags? Southwest is expanding service to South Carolina, and they’re taking the state by storm with flights to both Charleston and Greenville/Spartanburg. Expect fares to head south quickly, as it’s the first time Southwest is sending its red-bellied planes to these cities. Charleston will have new flights beginning in March to Baltimore, Chicago, Nashville, and Houston, so you can pretty much get anywhere domestically with just one stop. Loads of flights are on sale for just $109 each way to plenty of destinations, so check out the new options and get flying.
· Lufthansa:
Usually the chilly months bring schedule and capacity cuts to airline timetables, but apparently Lufthansa didn’t get the message. They’re expanding all over the globe from Africa to Europe, but we’re most interested in the flights heading out of the nifty fifty. The airline is now offering service from Washington and Miami—Montreal too, it’s close enough—to Munich all year long. Finally, just in time for Halloween, a brand new flight from Newark to Munich is starting on October 31 at 10:10pm. Maybe they’ll give out some good German candy as a treat to celebrate—gummy bears anyone?
· Frontier:
The free cookies and cutesy animals keep on coming, as Frontier looks to expand their route network this week. The airline knows Kansas City residents need an escape during their long cold winter, so this week brings an announcement of a new flight option to the Sunshine State. Starting December 18 planes will head to Fort Myers once a week, and twice a week beginning in February. Flights are on sale now for just around $120 each way, so it might be a good Christmas present for someone who hates the cold.
· Air France:
There’s another A380 on the loose, and this time Air France is brining the gigantic jumbo jet to Montreal for a visit. The Paris to Montreal route begins in May of next year, and will link French Canadians with the French in France. This will be the fourth destination that Air France has visited with the bird, as they’ve previously seen Tokyo, New York, and Johannesburg. Unfortunately, we’re not expecting any kind of sweet airfare deal on this new flight option.
· American Airlines:
It just finished announcing a bunch of new options with its oneworld buddies, and now American Airlines is looking to take over in Los Angeles with a bunch of new routes. New flights will be heading to and from LAX out of Albuquerque, Boise, El Paso, Houston, Sacramento, Phoenix, Okalahoma City, Sacramento, Tucson, and Salt Lake City. Depending on your town the flights might only run on certain days of the week, but still, these are some solid options to get to Southern California. The new planes—all of them American Eagle options—take flight next April.
