This Is What You'll See on Approaching a Full-Body Scanner

The most visceral memories of this member of Jaunted’s recent All You Can Jet experience? Not seeing Niagara Falls or hitting up New York Fashion Week, but dealing with the full-body scanners we found on our travels.

We saw a few of them so we had time to suss out what it’s like to have one, to refuse one, and the best ways to dodge them. More on that later in the week, but for today, we’re showing you what the set up looks like.

This is what you’ll see as you approach the scanner. Or rather, what you should see. We were greeted by these pictures in Buffalo, Charlotte and Boston, but in Pittsburgh, where they also had the scanners, there was (eeek) no warning.

The pictures show a male and a female front and back, as seen through the backscatter x-ray technology. The sign assures you that “Backscatter technology is voluntary for all passengers” and that “alternative screening is available”. Then another sign informed us that:

If you choose not to be screened by this technology you will receive a thorough pat down.

So which is less blush-inducing – an up close and personal patdown, or your nekkid parts seen by someone stashed away in another room? We’ll let you know tomorrow.

OPT-OUT EVERY TIME!

Make the smurfs work for their money and skip the radiation treatment! Especially important for kids and pregnant women.
You have the unconditional RIGHT to opt-out.
Google "DONT SCAN ME" or go to:
http://DontScan.us
for important radiological safety and privacy information and actual images from this technology, not the lame images that TSA is propagating.
