Raise your hand if you can name any Russian airlines. Wait, you didn't know there was more than Aeroflot? Well there is, and one of them has their sights firmly set on more direct routes between Moscow and the United States. We're talking about Transaero, an airline that's been around since 1990 and will now begin flying to both New York and Miami later this month.

With only 50 planes, Transaero is far from being mistaken as a huge airline, but they are pretty major over in Russia and are favorites for holiday travel, with routes like Moscow to Sharm el Sheikh and Moscow to London. The new Miami service is unique as it will make Transaero the first airline ever to have non-stop flights between Moscow and Miami.

For the three-times-a-week New York-JFK route, expect to see a 747-400 with a capacity of 352 passengers in Business, Premium Economy and Economy Classes taking off starting from October 29. Down in Miami, it'll be 777 for 306 passengers in four classes, including "Imperial Class," Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy.

Ticket prices for the New York-Domodedovo route are cheap right now, and they can be booked online at Transaero's website or at Expedia. We searched Transaero flights in November and they came back as a total of $560. On other airlines, you're looking at $630+ and with a connection to make somewhere in Europe. Okay, now here's the question: how attractive will Moscow be to visitors in November? Hmm...

Definitley not the first direct flights between Miami and Moscow. Aeroflot served this route throughout the 1990's, often via Shannon and/or Stockholm.

thanks!

Transaero is boasting that they are the first because their flight will be non-stop.
