Scranton's Airport Should Just Rename Itself 'Dunder Mifflin Airport'

If you have any business meetings with Michael Scott scheduled this spring, you’ll be pleased to see some of the renovations done to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, which desperately needs a name update itself. Officials have given the green light to open up the wallet to fund a couple rehab projects, and they’re looking to get things ready for a new restaurant. They already have ensured that there’s free WiFi for all throughout the Joseph M. McDade Terminal Building, so the new upgrades are just icing on the cake.

Midtown Sundries—they’ve got locations in North Carolina and Floridais set to open at the airport this March. Despite their name they sell food and drinks, not stuff like toiletries and cosmetics. The restaurant looks like the typical steak, burger, and sandwich place, and they have big kid beverages, so it will definitely be a good option to drink away any flight delays.

We’re all for spending some extra cash to spruce up airports, but we feel that officials are missing out on the chance to create a great tourist trap with this place. The location would be the perfect spot for a restaurant themed to the set of The Office. They could make it look like the Dunder Mifflin break room and make all the staff dress like Dwight—even the waitresses.

We’ve run the numbers and people dressed in short sleeve shirts with ties will definitely drive cheeseburger sales. Maybe it’s not the best idea, but it would put Scranton a couple spots higher on our travel to do list.
