Look what just landed in our inbox just a moment ago. It's the first official real image of Hogwarts, within "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" theme park at Universal Studios Orlando. Muggles, rejoice!

Seriously though, this is one work of crazy construction. Granted we don't have any idea of its actual size from the picture, but it does look impressive and we can't wait for more news to trickle out before the 20-acre "fully immersive" theme park officially opens sometimes later this spring. Oh wait, we remember the CEO of Universal Studios saying something about how "everything will be scaled to size with an incredible level of detail." We're far too old to be freaking out about this, but the thought of donning a cape and entering a life-size great room at Hogwarts is pretty appealing, you have to admit.

After the jump, a full update on construction

Straight from the release email, here's a brief update on the construction of the whole park:

The magical transformation continues. Although still very much a work in progress, the magnificence of Hogwarts castle is beginning to take shape above Hogsmeade as work continues on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Hogwarts will be the home of a thrilling, new, state-of-the-art attraction - Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey - that uses ground-breaking technology to bring the magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life in ways never before experienced. Set to open in Spring 2010 only at Universal Orlando Resort, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will feature multiple themed attractions, shops and a restaurant.

When they announce the opening dates of the park, you can bet that family vacations for Orlando are going to soar! And you know, we might have to venture down as well.

Oh, it's BIG

Was in Orlando last month and went over to Universal to get a look at this as I'm a serious HP fan. I was so excited to see the builders. Then when I saw the roller coaster tracks I nearly passed out. I've got tons of pics and keep looking at them in anticipation of opening day. My kids hate HP, so when I go back in the Spring, it'll be by myself!

Remember...

It's a theme park within a theme park (in other words, it is just one part of Islands of Adventure - not a completely separate park).

There's a Moat..

..outside of it as well. Bet it's to keep Voldemort out ::snort:: Bananas. I can't wait to get my hands on some butterbeer. Wonder if it'll taste like what I've imagined it to be.

Vacation

Since Universal has been working with the films' production designer, Stuart Craig, and art director, Alan Gilmore, the rooms are supposed to be very accurate representations of the interior of Hogwarts -- so much so that most of the props used in the rooms are the actual props from the films and are on lease from Warner Bros. Later releases from Universal will tell which rooms are going to be included in the castle -- and whether actual actors will be recreating the scenes promised for the Forbidden Journey ride. http://www.journeyidea.com
