V Australia Reveals What They Believe To Be The Perfect Travel Bag

January 25, 2010 at 3:44 PM | by | Comments (2)

Is this the perfect bag for airline travel? V Australia and New York fashion designer Steven Alan think so, especially after they sent him all around Australia on a trip for inspiration to create this accessory specifically for them.

During his trip Down Under, Alan blogged and tweeted about the experience, all the while asking the public for hints on what they travel with and what type of bag they'd like. Finally, he returned and went to work on the prototype with his team, and they emerged with the above bag. Do you like it? We're a bit mixed, since it's kind of big and we prefer a thinner profile for easy overhead bin stuffing, but then we haven't seen it in person.

Wondering about why it lacks exterior backpack straps, blog Cool Hunting recently asked Steven Alan about the design process, and he responded:

The first idea was something that basically had backpack straps but they were hidden on the bottom of the bag, because I didn't want it to look like a backpack. I had seen this before but we sketched it out and then afterward I was playing around with it and started thinking about the last time I was traveling and went to the bathroom and put the bag down on the floor, which is kind of gross. That's the part you're putting on your back, right? So I was like okay, I can't do that. I figured out a way to re-engineer it so that the straps were actually on the front without it looking like a backpack.

Looks like we'll have to wait a little longer before finding out the price or availability of the bag too; it's not yet up on V Australia's website, but we'll keep our ears open. In the meantime, let us know in the comments what you think of it.

eBags Mother Lode?

It reminds me of the eBags Mother Lode Mini with the hard-side compartment at the bottom. Not sure if I would want to wear this thing on my back though - and where are the wheels? :(

I really like the Mother Lode though. Ever since the JetBlue AYCJ, I have used nothing else (it's carry-on size and easy to live out of).

Fit for everything!

As long as this bag is an useful item for trips and expeditions it has my interest on it. I'll admit it has an interesting design, it can be adapted to any travel environment which is a great advantage. I would wear it everywhere starting from Australia road trip to San Francisco hotels.
