Raise A Glass To San Francisco Beer Week

San Francisco is known for their food scene, but with San Francisco Beer Week 2010 they’re throwing their hats in the ring for contention as a serious beer town as well.

Events kick off on February 5 and run through February 14—yes, it’s a little more than a week. The San Francisco Brewers Guild starts things off right with their Opening Gala. The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts will be filled with enthusiastic beer fans as they sample over 30 craft brews and barrel-aged beverages. Tickets for the opening night start at just $45, but jump up to $55 if you order them after January 31.

The beer isn’t just contained to San Francisco proper either, as events are scattered throughout the area into surrounding towns and cities. We’re kind of interested in the Double IPA Festival at The Bistro in Hayward. A couple of those high strength brews and you’ll be having a good time no matter what they take like. Another solid out of town pick is the craft beer and local sausage pairing at Seabright Brewery in Santa Cruz. As long as the event has a little more than just hot dogs it's got to be a winner.

There’s so many events that we lost count, so visit their website for a full rundown of what takes place and when. They’ve set up an interactive map to best plan your route, and have broken down where the suds will be flowing into specific neighborhoods. Things even stretch up into wine country as the Napa Valley Brewing Company is inviting everyone out of the city for a tour and tasting at the Calistoga Inn.

Organizers know women love beer too, and Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company is inviting the ladies out on February 11 for a blind tasting. It’s $20 to taste and appreciate over ten different brews, and best of all, no boys allowed and comfy sweats are encouraged.

Many of the events are free, but obviously you still need to pay for your drinks. Reservations are recommended at some of the restaurant beer pairings and specialty tours so plan ahead. There’s even some stuff to do on Valentine’s Day if your sweetie is into lagers and ales rather than candy and bears. Organizers have even created a solid rundown of public transit options and taxis just in case the festival gets out of hand.
