Take A Tour of the Arizona Cardinals' Desert Football Oasis

January 20, 2010 at 12:15 PM | by | Comments (0)

It’s hard to be a football fan in Arizona right now. After last year’s run to the Super Bowl, it’s going to be difficult to sit back and watch the remaining teams battle it out for a chance to win in it all. After being sent home early by the New Orleans Saints, fans of the Arizona Cardinals are wondering if they’ll see Kurt Warner again next season. Despite all the uncertainty surrounding the team’s chances for a win in 2011, there’s one thing that isn’t going anywhere—the University of Phoenix Stadium and it’s one of the best in the league.

If you’re depressed about your team heading to the golf course a little earlier than you expected, make your way to this fortress of football to take a tour of the stadium. The place swung open its doors in 2006, and it’s located just outside Phoenix in Glendale. It was the home of Super Bowl in 2008—that’s the one where the Giants upset the Patriots—so it already has its share of a little history.

The tours last about 75 minutes, and you’ll get to see all the crazy features that are present in the stadium. Our favorite thing has got to be the stadium grass. The grounds crew roll the turf outside to get some sun during the afternoon, and then bring the whole field back into the stadium for game time. The tour is camera friendly, and tour guides will ensure that you get to take some pictures with unique viewpoints. Just remember to wear some comfortable shoes as there’s a lot of walking—about one mile by the time its over.

Tours are open to football fans usually Thursday through Saturday at 10:30am, 12:30pm, and 2:30pm. Tickets are just $7 for adults, but there’s a $4.70 convenience charge if you order your tickets online through Ticketmaster. You can skip the extra fees by ordering from the box office a couple months in advance, and even on the day of your tour. The tickets are first-come first-severe, so if you’ve got your heart set on a specific date, make sure to order ahead of time even if you have to deal with the fees.
