What's The Scoop With Six Flags Parks In 2010?

January 19, 2010 at 11:35 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

It’s still pretty cold outside, but that doesn’t keep us from thinking about what the theme parks are up to as we move into 2010. Last week Six Flags held a conference call with CEO Mark Shapiro especially for bloggers, and we got to listen in on what’s going on. Seems like they’ve finally righted the ship with their coaster kingdoms, and they’re looking forward to getting back on track this year as they attempt to exit the bankruptcy process by the end of March.

The parks are working hard to improve their image and become a friendly option for families looking for something to do—daycation was mentioned of course. We haven’t been to a Six Flags recently, but we’re being promised that they’re all cleaner, friendlier, and better all around. It sounds like they really want to bend over backwards to ensure everyone is having a good time this year.

Unfortunately there weren’t any revelations regarding new rides for the 2010 season, but there were a couple hints about stuff they were working on—just no official statements yet. Something is coming to Montreal’s La Ronde theme park, but all we know is that it will be a “top-flight” coaster. New entertainment like the Glow in the Park parade will be coming to Six Flags Great American near Chicago, and the parade will return to Six Flags New England after it took a year off.

The biggest thing for 2010 will be new ticket options. The Play Pass is going to be available nationwide and it will serve as a season pass for the entire country’s lineup of Six Flags parks. You’ll buy the pass at your local park and then be free to conduct summer road trips to the other parks throughout the season. The best place to buy one is Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisvilleit’s only $29.99!

They might be saving some cash for next year, because it’s the park’s fiftieth anniversary. For 2011 Six Flags is promising a new attraction at every park and a concentration on new shows and entertainment. We’re not huge fans of the song and dance routines, but we do need sometime to digest our lunch of chicken fingers and hot dogs. Speaking of theme park food, they have no plans to class up the dining options. So expect more of the same deep fried offerings for the near future—we kind of don’t mind this, as we’re not really looking for scallops after a roller coaster marathon.

Overall it looks like a cheaper and friendlier Six Flags experience for the year ahead. Just make sure that you take advantage of the cheap ticket options while you can. It sounds like they are totally prepared to slowly inch up ticket prices as the economy improves.
