Touchscreen Menus Exist In Chicago To Avoid 'Dithering' Customers

The Madpoison lounge and restaurant in Chicago doesn't hide its geek tendencies. Its motto is to "blend Mixology, Technology, Sociology and Foodology," and any place with so many "ologies" is clearly a touch on the nerdy side. But at the same time, it's really very cool.

Madpoison uses interactive touchscreen menus for ordering, including a big one for all us regular customers and tabletop screens at its VIP booths. They encourage you to build your own pizza on-screen, selecting exactly the toppings you want—saki stir-fried vegetables, sesame seeds or feta cheese being among the options.

While you wait for your food, you can play "spin the digital bottle" on your touchscreen, do some digital finger painting, or flirt with the people sitting at another touchscreen. If you're bringing potential clients, you can even upload your own presentation into the table.

All this is good. The only criticism we have is that Madpoison considers one big advantage of touchscreen ordering to be that wait staff have more time to focus on service because they eliminate "the ever so common – and frustrating - … customer dithering". We'll dither if we want, and we'll even dither digitally.
