This Weekend In The World: Five Cities Celebrate The Seasons

September 25, 2009 at 5:18 PM | by | Comments (0)

We could spend hours digging up all kinds of random festivals from all over the world happening this weekend, but thankfully we've already got five excellent choices completely detailed on Jaunted already:

· Chicago:
As the upscale alternative to the Taste of Chicago, the Chicago Gourmet Festival focuses on the five-star restaurants and James Beard-winning (and nominated) chefs that make The Windy City a foodie-friendly metropolis. Everything from dishes by Rick Bayless to a semi-separate wine festival will go down this weekend in Millennium Park. All details here.

· Canberra:
Flowers are everywhere in spring, but for us in the western hemisphere we've only got leaves dying and the smell of autumn. To relive spring, head to Australia's capital of Canberra, where it's currently springtime and they're celebrating with the Floriade Festival. All details here.

· Warrens, WI:
While Australia hails the arrival of spring, Wisconsin is meanwhile fully embracing fall with a festival to celebrate one of the season's yummiest arrivals: cranberries. The Cranberry Festival last through the weekend in Warrens, and it features marsh tours and over three miles of vendors. All details are here.

· Lawrenceburg, KY:
For all you foodies who are open to trying everything from deep-fried alligator to Hawaiian poi, we recommend hightailing it down to Kentucky for a steaming bowl of the burgoo. What is "burgoo," you ask? Oh, just a mish-mash of meats and chili-type sauce that doesn't quite qualify as child, but does get its own Burgoo Festival. All details are here.

· Bath, England:
Looking for a weekend full of more "cultured" events than eating burgoo and frolicing through Canberra's flowers? If you're in the vicinity of southern England, Bath is hosting the Jane Austen Festival, and this happens to be the final weekend. We're particularly interested in the "Dress Like Darcy" activity, and taking the waters at the thermal baths. Bring your bathing bloomers! All details here.
