Where to Stay:
At least one scene in The Boys Are Back was filmed at DogRidge Vineyards in the McLaren Vale wine region. DogRidge is a family-owned winery featuring several plantings of Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon that are the basis for their bottled wines. DogRidge offers free tastings of all of their wines daily until 5 pm. They don't serve food, but they do encourage guests to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy outside with a bottle of their wine.
Where to Eat:
For an authentic look inside South Australian life, spend the night at nearby Lot 7 Cottage in McLaren Flat. The cottage is located in the heart of McLaren Vale wine country and offers great views of the region. The two-bedroom cottage features all of the amenities you need to feel at home, from a microwave to a washing machine. The owners, who live nearby, also clean the cottage daily and provide a welcome of warm biscuits and a bottle of wine. Rates start around $180 a night.
Where to Drink:
Penny's Hill Winery, also in McLaren Vale, serves lunch daily in their restaurant, The Kitchen Door. They serve five course meals or a lighter selection of tapas, all of which are meant to compliment their homegrown wines. The winery proudly created a special wine for The Boys Are Back featuring a exclusive 'Tall Boys" label. The wine was served at the movie's Australian premiere and can be purchased on site or ordered online. Reservations are suggested for lunch and can be made here.
