Some Pretty Sweet Suites Coming Soon On US Airways

September 22, 2009 at 8:58 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

Sorry US Airways, but when we hear your name the first thing that comes to mind is how you guys were the airline that first decided to charge for drinks up in the sky. To be fair, the policy was only temporary, but we don’t really associate your business model with cool, comfortable, or classy. That’s why we were pleased and surprised to hear that US Airways is equipping part of their fleet with a new business class seat known as the Envoy Suite.

This new Envoy Suite will be able to recline 180 degrees—AKA totally flat—which will definitely help us catch a few winks on a long haul flight. Also noteworthy is that the total bed length will between 6’4” and 6’8” depending on the cabin, so there will be no need to curl up to fit in this seat.

If you can’t sleep, or have had too much wine, you’ll at least be fully entertained. A 110-volt plug will keep your laptop going along with a USB jack for any other portable players you may have. If you want to rely on the airline’s entertainment instead, you’ll be viewing not-that-great in-flight movies on a 12.1” screen.

The stylish new seat will make its debut later this year—just in time for the holidays—on the airline’s Airbus A330-200 planes. They’ll have everything finished by summer of 2010, and then will start figuring out how to get these seats into the A330-300s with a goal of completion by summer 2011.

Our only complaint, other than the fact that we only get stuck in coach, is that the new seat looks to be cloth or some kind of micro fiber materials. We kind of prefer leather, because it repels mysterious stains from previous passengers just a little better.
