Last night's "India Calling!" concert at the Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles' best place to see live music during summer months, was a reminder that Bowl season is swiftly winding down. The show was the last in the "World Festival" series, leaving Angelenos just over a month left to enjoy nights at the Bowl with picnics, music, views of the Hollywood sign, and tickets starting as low as $1 per seat.

The Bowl is hardly a well-kept Los Angeles secret, joining the ranks of Runyon Canyon as one of the city's most popular attractions. But it's also one of those quintessentially LA experiences that even locals fawn over, year after year. There are few other places you can get such bang-for-your-buck entertainment, and which allow you to bring bottles of wine and outside food rather than pay a ridiculous fee for venue concessions. Though, if you want to, the Bowl has a slew of restaurant-quality food from the Patina Group to choose from—think Angus rib-eye and gourmet sandwiches instead of stale nachos with imitation cheese.

There are a few big lease events in October for audiences to look forward to—Kylie Minogue in her first North American tour, Jason Mraz, and Maxwell among them—but you still have a few more chances to soak up the best of the venue for way less money than marquee names ask for.

On Saturday, September 26th, you can join in with tens of thousands during a sing-along to The Sound of Music, when being nestled in between hills at the venue gives new meaning to the title song. The next night invites a '70s revival with "Disco Fever", featuring the music of The Village People and Kool & the Gang.

We would suggest hitting up the Bowl for a free concert starring the new, young, much-lauded Music Director of the LA Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel, but gratis tickets are long gone. However, the website does suggest checking back about two weeks before the October 3rd show just in case last-minute ticket returns open up a few seats.

Other final tips for Bowl newbies: Get validated parking at the Hollywood & Highland complex and make the short walk up to the Bowl instead of paying for a shuttle; utilize the park facilities next door for a pre-show picnic; and, if you happen to have purchased bench seats but notice empty rows in front of you once the show starts, we've never seen a fuss made when concertgoers just happen to sneak down a little bit—but you didn't hear that from us.
