Oprah Will Throw A Massive Public Party On Chicago's Michigan Avenue
This picture actually happened
All this weekend, Chicago will be battening the hatches in preparation for the street party of the decade. Beginning at 12:01am Monday morning and ending at 5am on Wednesday, the three blocks of Michigan Avenue from Wacker Drive to Ohio Street will be closed specially for Oprah. Actually, for Oprah's show season kickoff taping, and everybody is invited.
The actual show taping is only an hour long, starting at 5pm on Tuesday, but the street needs to be closed for the erection of a temporary stage at the river and proper preparation for crowd control and security. If you do manage to squeeze into the three blocks on Tuesday for the free show, including a performance by the Black Eyed Peas and countless other celebrity surprises, be sure to DVR the airing of the episode on September 109.14 is the normal premiere.
If you happen to be in The Windy City and could care less about a giant talk show street party, then you've still got to be aware of the transportation entanglements it'll cause. Taxis will cost more because of the detour, 15 bus routes will be temporarily changed, and of course there will be a crush of passengers on both buses and the El on Tuesday, hoping to get into and out of the taping. Check out the official party website for more details.
If this is how she celebrates her 24th season on the air, then we're positively frightened for next year's antics.
