Will Crazy Eating-Around-The-World TV Shows Ever Go Out Of Style?

Are you willing to eat on camera? Someone, somewhere has a job for you! Stunt-eating reality show "Have Fork, Will Travel" moves to American cable channel The Fine Living Network this week, for its third season beginning tonight at 5PM. Will comedian host Zane Lamprey break out from the pack of people who eat funny stuff for a living? We doubt it!

When "Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations" premiered on Travel Channel in 2005, it successfully applied the edgy chef's try-anything mentality to the travel format. Then Travel added "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern," who does similar stunts with a neurotic New Yorker outlook (and a journalistic, not culinary background). Adam Richman's "Man vs. Food" focuses more on the unhealthy than the weird or inedible, but the prospect is the same.

So Americans like to watch people eat; it's honest entertainment, what's wrong with it? Lamprey hardly seems like the best addition to this category, though, despite having previously hosted a drinking show called "Three Sheets": After the Fine Living Network sent him to Provence, France for a segment, Lamprey told the New York Daily News he had a great time but couldn't remember what was served. We can't remember what we had for dinner last night either, but even if the segment is edited in the cleverest of ways, that's still an epic menu fail for an ostensible expert.
