We were able to speak with Virgin America's CEO David Cush (above) about the reason for sponsoring the festival and he said, "The Virgin brand from the beginning has always been about music," so it was a natural fit. Also, a huge part of their in-flight experience is the entertainment (RED) they provide to passengers, which includes 3,000 MP3s, 20 streaming radio channels and even music videos. So music is obviously important to the Virgin brand.
Still, the party was just another Hollywood event party. The drinks line was long, the rooftop crowded, the celebs tucked away in a VIP section and we went home feeling no more enlightened than we did before. On a positive note, the event held a raffle for the Los Angeles Firemen's Relief Association's Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firemen's Fund and a few lucky winners received flights to Down Under on V Australia as well as hotel accommodations.
