Smells, Speedos, And Sweat Banned At Theme Parks Across The Pond

September 1, 2009 at 1:04 PM | by kjb | 1 Comment

The rules at British theme parks are starting to get pretty stern. No longer can you assume that it’s fine to just wake up and head out to ride roller coasters without ensuring you are neatly and freshly groomed, especially now that Rihanna might be your seatmate. Officials want to make sure everyone is comfortable, so they are cracking down on the less enjoyable aspects of the amusement park experience.

At Thorpe Park signs are going up to remind visitors to keep their arms down on the rides. In case people don’t quite grasp what they are referencing, the text of the signs makes it pretty clear—“Say No To BO.” Temperatures have been warm lately and they just don’t want smelly pits to make the park’s roller coasters unpleasant. This is no joke either; those who don’t follow the new smell prevention mandate will be escorted from the park.

Over at Alton Towers things aren’t too smelly, but people are sick of seeing a little too much skin. Apparently, Speedo swimwear has gotten pretty popular among men visiting the park, and it’s not sitting well with park officials and other visitors. They’re asking men to tone it down, and recommend board shorts as a more appropriate choice. In a statement, they remind everyone that the Speedo is “more suited to Spain than Staffordshire.”

We’re definitely not fans of body odor and we don’t really enjoy banana hammocks in our peripheral vision, so we say good job British theme parks! Let’s hope some of these new regulations make it across the pond. This way, pairing up with the big smelly dude just to fill up the roller coaster car won't be as bad. Now, if we can just get rid of the Axe Body Spray crowd as well, we’ll be good to go.

    Puritanical Hypocrisy

The Headline of this article speaks for itself at how stupid this is! Sweating is banned?! Body hair is banned?! I find this decision to be hypocritical and sexist. It interesting that they deem men in Speedos and hairy backs as "offensive to children" but find no offense with women's cottage-cheese asses and sagging camel-toes packed into string bikinis. These people are obviously pretty uptight about the male body. I used to visit the Mediterranean with my family in the summers when I was little and you got to see everything there, including women going topless. The people in those countries are not as fearful of the human body as so many English speaking countries are with the Puritanical Hypocrisy that they hold so dearly to their hearts!
