Stand-by tickets are distributed at 7am sharp on the 49th Street side of 30 Rockefeller Plaza on the mornings of the tapings. Everyone in the stand-by line must remain in line until the tickets are handed out. If you do get lucky and receive a ticket, you can choose between the 8pm dress rehearsal or the 11:30pm live taping.
There is a limit of one ticket per person, and they are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis and you must be at least 16 to attend the show. But be warned, a stand-by ticket does not guarantee you admission. If one of those "people in the know" shows up at the last minute, you're out and they're in your seat!
We've actually done this and been successful, scoring numbers 15 and 16 in the stand-by line after sleeping on the sidewalk in November. We arrived prepared though, at 4am with McMuffins from a 24-hr McDonalds and and enough blankets and cardboard bedding to help even some of our fellow line-waiters stay warm. Totally worth it!
