Happy Virgin America Day! Another Absinthe Cocktail, Please

August 7, 2009 at 9:41 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

Today might be a happy one simply because it's Friday, but do you know what tomorrow is? Even better than Saturday: it's Virgin America Day! That's right—the airline of mood lighting, web 2.0 personalities, and in-flight sexting is turning two years old on 08-08-09, and San Francisco's Mayor Newsom is making it official by declaring tomorrow Virgin America Day.

VA will be celebrating in their own way as well, by introducing new features on flights. First up is Shop Red, kind of like duty-free, but they'll only be selling the little packets of "Help" Remedies, which combat headaches, stomachaches and sleep troubles. You'll soon also be able to watch their "Best Of the Web" content and a whole channel of BoingBoing content. It's web 2.0-tacular!

Don't forget their in-flight movies and snacks; expect a whole new slew of PIxar films on deck on the Red entertainment system, and new late summer/autumn food choices. For example, coming soon to your touchscreen menu: Dukkah Chicken Salad or Figs with Prosciutto and Ricotta in First Class, and a Black and Blue Steak Sandwich, Turkey Florentine Hand Roll and Muffaletta Sandwich back in Economy.

We're thinking that all of this would go down very well with an Absinthe cocktail, and we'll have one in celebration next time we hit the skies. Until then, let's review some of our favorite milestones in Virgin America's celeb-infused and sexy history:

· May 2009 First in the sky with Fleet-wide WiFi
· June 2008 VA is good to go party in Vegas
· January 2008 At Sundance, VA loses its virginity to Paris Hilton
· November 2007 All we need to say is: Pajama Party + Victoria's Secret models
· July 2007 Tickets for first flights go on sale; we jump on that
