Get In On Canada's Blockbuster Summer Music Festivals

Virgin Mobile's V-Fest, their second annual Canadian summer concert series, has already gotten its fair share of excitement this season. After passing through Montreal and Nova Scotia, the festival touched down in BC a few weeks ago for a weekend of music, celebrations, and insanely massive thunderstorms. The first night actually had to be called off early to ensure that nobody died, although concert organizers rescheduled The Roots for another time.

But it's the next two shows, first in Alberta and then in Ontario, that are getting all the attention.

Alberta's concert happens this weekend when, on Saturday, Pearl Jam headlines, marking their first appearance in concert this season. Sunday night's headliner is Billy Talent and in between there will be festival "experiences" like Thai massages, burlesque pole-dancing lessons, and an autograph tent.

After that the festival moves on to its final date in Ontario on August 29-30. That show promises to be an out-and-out blockbuster: Ben Harper, the Pixies, and Franz Ferdinand on Saturday and Nine Inch Nails, Pet Shop Boys, and Our Lady Peace on Sunday. The lineup is so packed that the Cold War Kids and the Von Bondies, hipster darlings though they are, have been relegated to the smaller typeface on all the fliers.

Naturally V-Fest is conveniently sprinkled all over the interwebs, from their Facebook page to their Twitter feed. If you have any interest in the festival, you're highly advised to follow the latter. Most recent tweet: "Tweet for tickets! Win a pair of tix to Virgin Festival Ontario! http://www.tinyurl.com/vfesttwitter/"

Tickets for V-Fest can be purchased directly from their website. You're probably too late to make it to the Alberta show on a whim, but our informal inquiries showed that passes are still available for the Ontario concert. $59.50 gets you in for 1 day, $99 hooks you up for the whole weekend, and $275.00 makes you a VIP. There's also information on camping and on something called "PickupPal," which is some sort of eco-rideshare program. Those Canadians are so friendly!
