Three Vacations For Paula Abdul's New Funemployment

August 5, 2009 at 12:33 PM | by egw | 0 Comments

The Internets went crazy last night when Paula Abdul tweeted that she was leaving "American Idol" after eight seasons of telling contestants that America loves them. Coming on the heels of an announcement that new judge Kara DioGuardi had re-signed for another season, the scuttlebutt holds that producers were trying to replace Abdul all along; according to the New York Post, the "Opposites Attract" singer had asked for up to a $15 million pay raise to stay on as a judge.

Our advice to Paula: It's time to get out of Los Angeles for a bit! It doesn't matter whether you jumped or were pushed. If you sign up for a new reality-TV project, you're only going to look desperate and hate yourself. Put down your Blackberry and enjoy one of our handpicked getaways:

Go Bronze: There's nothing wrong that a little seasonal sunshine can't fix. We pulled a $472 package to Aruba this morning from LastMinute.com. Resist the temptation to get (more?) plastic surgery when you're there; focus on nature instead.

Go British: What better way to get revenge on that meanie Simon Cowell than by launching a charm offensive on his home turf? Scoop up airfare on Virgin Atlantic and 6 nights in a London hotel with a new Virgin Vacations promo called "London Fling." No wonder it made Kayak's list of the best travel deals for August. You have to travel between November 1 and December 20, though, so spend the intervening months watching "My Fair Lady" and developing a taste for tea.

Go Brooklyn: Up your cool quotient in the wake of starring in the popular but scorned "Idol" by taking the act cross-country for a few months. Stay at one of our sister HotelChatter's Five Best Hotels For Those Not Afraid to Go to Brooklyn and you can be assured of style and plenty of attention for whatever phase you're going through. Dye your hair red and put on a leather jacket! Why not?
