This Weekend In The World: Michael Jackson's Birthday And More

August 28, 2009 at 4:29 PM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

· Brooklyn
He might be gone, but he is definitely not forgotten; tomorrow is Michael Jackson's 51st birthday, and Spike Lee is calling all five boroughs of New York City to come to Brooklyn's Prospect Park to celebrate. Happening between 12pm and 5pm in the Nethermead Meadow, MJ's birthday party will be a fest of DJs spinning his music and more. Expect lots of single gloves, glittery socks with loafers, and much chanting of "ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa."

· London
We already recommended that Mandy Moore hit up the Notting Hill Carnival this Sunday and Monday to forget her homesickness, but with a 3.5-mile-long parade route, there's plenty of room for everyone to party down. Of course there will be food and cocktails, and a whole slew of live bands banging out everything from calypso tunes to hip-hop.

· Atlanta
Atlanta resident will no doubt notice the 1st Annual Red Bull Soapbox Derby on Saturday, whether they want to or not, due to all of the street closures. The actual race happens on 10th Street, as 50 teams battle for the title of fastest non-motorized street racer. Technically, these races have been happening since 2006, but this year is a first in Atlanta. There's even an accompanying iPhone game, just in case you can't make it into town for the real thing.
