The package includes four nights at the Savoy Othon Travel Hotel, which boasts a great location, air conditioning, WiFi in public areas, and a free hearty breakfast buffet. On the downside, the hotel service isn't very good and the rooms are basic, lack amenities and many don't have nice views.
In response, Gate 1 offers the option to upgrade to better hotels. You can choose the Golden Tulip Regente or Sofitel Rio de Janeiro for an additional $100-and-up fee and $460-and-up charge, respectively. And you better have a travel buddy, because if you wanted to take the trip solo, you have to pay a "single person supplement" of $210.27. The supplement will be automatically charged to you upon booking—without explanation—if you only indicate one person is traveling.
You can add on tours to your package, like the half-day Sugarloaf Mountain tour, which includes a scenic cable car ride over Guanabara Bay for $57. There's also a full-day tropical island jaunt with lunch that goes for $70, the most expensive of the tours. You'll hop aboard a schooner and head for Itacuruçá for a midday buffet and time to explore the island.
If you want to go to the Copa, Copacabana, the hottest spot north of Havana (sorry, the song is stuck in our head), book the package online at Gate 1 or call 800-682-3333.
