SF's Outside Lands Festival Proves The '90s Are Alive And Well

Where: Golden Gate Park [map], San Francisco, CA, United States, 94102

Travel we know, but time travel? The lineup of this weekend's Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival looks like it could have been lifted from the grunge rock and jam band days of yesteryear. If you're nostalgic for the early '90s, buffalo plaid prints and all, then the festival is your musical dream come true—and you don't even have to rev up your DeLorean.

From August 28-30, Outside Lands returns to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park for the second year running, following 2008's Radiohead-headlined extravaganza. This year is ruled by some of Generation X's sonic heroes—namely Pearl Jam (Friday) and Dave Matthews Band (Saturday)—but there are also plenty of other of-the-moment artists on the bill that we're excited about: The National, TV on the Radio, The Duke Spirit, and Jack White's newest super-band, The Dead Weather.

If you don't yet have tickets, it's not too late to purchase some. Advanced Single Day tickets are available for $89.50, and there is a limited supply of Advance Three-Day tickets for $225.50. Also available are VIP Single Day and Three-Day tickets for significantly more ($235.00 and $595.00, respectively). VIP perks include access to the Exclusive Polo Club with lounge seating and massage services, special restroom facilities, and special food concessions, among other things.

As attendees of last year's festival, we have one key piece of advice to impart: Work out transportation to and from the park beforehand. Luckily, there are shuttle passes available for purchase, which, according to the Official Site, guarantees "roundtrip transportation from any of six locations in San Francisco and Daly City to/from Golden Gate Park and the entrance of Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival." With no nearby BART station, sure-to-be clogged Muni services, and taxis virtually impossible to hail post-show, you want to make sure you can get back to your home or hotel safely and quickly. Aside from that, rock on!

    since DMB and pearl jam...

ruled my high school days, this makes me happy. isn't true that there's never any music that sounds better than the stuff you start listening to in high school? well, obviously there IS better music out there but you get so attached to the songs of your youth, nothing really ever can compare.

and now this "deep thoughts with jack handey" session is over.
