You'll Pray To Be Pickpocketed In London By 'Putpocket'

You know the drill: when you're traveling in a big city, take special care of your wallet and other valuables and watch out for pickpockets. We have to amend this advice now—if you're in London, you have to watch out for putpockets instead.

A putpocket is just the opposite of a pickpocket; it's someone who actually sneaks some money into your pocket or handbag. And there are a team of 20 former pickpockets now working as putpockets across London, putting between £5 and £20 ($8 - $33) into the pockets and bags of unsuspecting tourists.

It's all part of a campaign run by broadband provider TalkTalk and they'll be giving away a total of £100,000. Until the end of this month the putpockets are only operating in London, but they'll start working the whole country after that.

If you're in London and wanting to hang around with your handbag open and waiting, apparently some of the hot putpocketing spots include Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden. Of course, there are probably still real pickpockets around too, so don't get too reckless in your desire to attract a putpocket.
