Emo's, 603 Red River St, is a small club but it has a good size outdoor stage with an outdoor beer garden. Emo's primarily features alternative music and often has major national acts grace their stage. You can find a complete listing of upcoming shows on their website.
Antone's, 213 W. 5th St, began as a blues club in the '70s and featured big name artists like B.B. King and Muddy Waters. Today, Antone's welcomes various types of artists but still brings in big time acts like Eric Clapton and Elvis Costello; even Bono and The Edge have played here.
Where to Eat:
Stubb's Bar-B-Q, 801 Red River St, serves good barbecue but they're better known for showcasing up and coming bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Cake. Stubb's outdoor stage is a favorite venue for locals who are looking to catch a live outdoor concert, though it can get packed when national acts hit the stage. If the crowd becomes too much, you can just step inside and order one of Stubb's Pulled Pork sandwiches on Texas Toast for $9.95.
Where to Stay:
HotelChatter thinks the Super 8 Motel Airport South in Austin may be the Superest Super 8 of them all. The motel has a Wii in the lobby, flat screen TVs in every room and theme suites, like the Asian Suite, which includes a canopied bed and swing. The best part is the rate; standard rooms start under $100, which will leave you plenty of money to spend on cover charges, beer and BBQ.
