Jetblue's All-You-Can-Jet Pass As Social Media Movement

Did you snag one of the much-coveted All-You-Can-Jet Passes from Jetblue? If you did, congratulations and we want to hear all about it once you begin traveling in a few weeks. If you didn't, sorry but it's too late since Jetblue says that demand was way higher than they ever hoped, and therefore they ended sales of the pass early, closing it yesterday instead of August 21.

Ever since the pass was announced on August 12, the country (and aviation fiends like ourselves) have gone crazy over it, mapping dream routes in our heads and attempting to justify taking a month off of work. Some are actually doing it, like Seth Miller, an IT consultant whom Time describes as an "aerophile." He's mainly interested in the actual flying and airport visiting, and so, during one weekend, he'll fly from "New York to Ponce, Puerto Rico back to New York to Las Vegas to Long Beach, Calif. to Portland, Ore. back to Long Beach to Chicago to New York to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and back to New York one last time."

If you think that's crazy, then you haven't heard anything yet; Time thinks that Jetblue has started a social media movement, since jetters who've opted for the pass have already launched blogs (Where We Jet and Twelve Hours In A City), twitter accounts (@599Club") and facebook groups (599Club, for example). Even online tourism marketers have realized its potential; CalVacationHomes.com has set up a 70% off villa promo for jetters who want to spend a few days in Long Beach.

The $599 pass is without a doubt a brilliant idea, sure to make Jetblue a lot of money in the long run; after all, web traffic to their route map page has jumped 700% since the news about the pass. And once you get used to satellite TV in flight and constant snacking, there's no turning back. The only thing stopping from us from hopping onboard the promotion as well is Jetblue's lack of in-flight internet; a mobile career means we can't request days off, and so we'll take a pass on this one....err we mean we won't take a pass. You get the idea.

    I'm the "aerophile"

    It is worth noting that the article also calls me a "nutjob" in the next paragraph. Apparently some radio announcers commenting on the article on the air this morning questioned "how long I've been a drug runner." Even better, however, is that when they mentioned the itinerary my friend who was listening to the radio knew that it had to be me. The 13,000 miles in 60 hours is my most aggressive itinerary but I've also got ~6,000 miles in 26 hours a couple weeks later and I'll be doing a few early morning runs across upstate New York before heading into work some days during the promotion.     My Itinerary

    While not a "drug runner" or "nutjob" per WanderingAramean's comment [big LOL both descriptions], I do have 27 days of travel booked with the All You can Jet pass. I am going through the following airports in this order: HOU, JFK, SJO, MCO, CUN, MCO, BOG, MCO, SDQ, JFK, BDA, JFK, HOU.

    While the trip is largely leisure, I am hoping to do video interviews with entrepreneurs in each of the international stops. I have detailed how I created my itinerary at The Strategy Blog.

We are trying to limit ourselves to 12 hours on the ground between flights, it should be an incredible adventure. We're looking to work with our viewers to create the best trip possible.
