Among TomTom's newest offerings, both in the iPhone app and in their standalone units, are IQ Routes. This new technology tries to calculate expected route times by using historical data and known obstructions, and then it reroutes drivers accordingly. It's not a quantum leap over the current "maximum speed + distance" formula that most other GPS algorithms use, but it's definitely an advance.
TomTom for iPhone works in both landscape and portrait views and zooms by pinching just like you'd expect. It's also integrated into the rest of the iPhone in all kinds of small and neat ways. For instance, using the contact list, it can automatically route you to a friend's house or dial up a restaurant for reservations and then take you there.
There are national and international maps available, the largest two being Europe at 1.44GB and the US at 1.21GB. TomTom is also selling a car kit for docking, which has the nice upshot of charging the iPhone as it's being used.
