Vogue To The Music: NYC's First 'Fashion's Night Out' Going Global

There is always something happening in New York City, whether its food-related like Restaurant Week, movie-related like the Tribeca Film Festival or any of the movies filming on the street, or just plain old party-related for the heck of throwing a good time. Come this September, NYC's crowded social calendar gets yet another doozy of an event added: Fashion's Night Out.

Only, this night of fashion designers and culture arbiters mixing with shoppers won't be restricted to the Big Apple; it's going global with simultaneous events all around Europe, in Brazil, Russia, China, India, Japan and Taiwan. Stores will stay open until 11pm for the revelry.

To be frank, we're pretty damn excited for this to go down on September 10, which is also the eve of New York's Fashion Week. It's also the day before September 11, and Fashion's Night Out is paying respect to this by donating all proceeds from the sale of their T-shirts to the 9/11 Memorial Fund.

Now onto the parties and events...

Although a complete list of store events won't be released on the Fashion's Night Out website until August 17, there have already been many leaked events to get excited about; WSJ reports:

Vera Wang says she will have a DJ and 'American Idol' judge Kara DioGuardi at her Mercer Street boutique in New York. Roughly 40 designers will wander around chatting up shoppers at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. All 41 Neiman Marcus stores will participate, offering entertainment to shoppers. Ten Judith Ripka stores around the U.S. will offer a free change of nail polish infused with diamond dust, and serve food and champagne while raffling off rings worth $700.

Since the brains behind this event are none other than Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and Council of Fashion Designers president Diane von Furstenberg, we're expecting this to be hugely popular and influential evening. It's even reported that designer Alexander Wang will give runway lessons and Isaac Mizrahi will perform cabaret at Bergdorf Goodman.

Oh it's just so New York and brilliant, and best of all, the aim of the evening is to give the fashion and retail industries a morale boost to weather the rest of the recession. Party on!
