Other volunteers make sure the shuckers are filled with hamburgers and beer—it’s hard work! The finished corn gets a bath in cold water, and then sits in a big fridge as it dreams of the day when it can get in your chompers.
Carnival rides, corn-eating contests, and even a horseshoe-pitching tournament are just some of the things you can expect at this year’s festival. On Saturday, those who need to stretch their legs after all the corn shucking can participate in either a 5K or 10K. If running after filling your belly doesn't sound ideal, just remember that this festival has been going strong since the 1950s, and with plenty of other corn activities around, you won't be disappointed.
