The Best Travel-Related Bets At New York's Fringe Theatre Festival

The New York Fringe Festival may not be as big as Edinburgh's blowout bash held in the same month, but the deals are just as sterling: Two weeks of shows begin this Friday, August 14, with all tickets at a very reasonable $15—unless you get a pass like the "Fiver" (five shows for $70) or the "Lunatic" (as many shows as you want for $500).

We recommend at least making the trip for these Four Top Fringe Fest NYC Shows:

· "The Antarctic Chronicles"
How writer-performer Jessica Manuel ended up on the other side of the world, and what she learned about herself once she got there. A must-see for you cold-weather fans. (At The Players Loft, 115 MacDougal St.)

· "Population 8"
This drama about a tiny town whose residents have to band together is fiction, but putting yourself in a rural mindset has got to be a challenge in a big city. (At the SoHo Playhouse, 15 Vandam St.)

· "Tales from the Tunnel"
Love it or hate it, New Yorkers couldn't get around without the subway; this revue collects interviews and notes from real experiences on the glorious underground. (At the Connelly Theater, 220 E. 4th St.)

· Special Internet Pick: "I Can Has Cheezburger, The MusicLOL"
Come on, like you didn't want to be the first to write the world-premiere cat-macro play. Jealous cat is jealous! (At the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce St.)
