US Airways Announces They'll Have In-Flight WiFi In 2010

Today is a proud day for advocates of almighty in-flight WiFi, as a surprise dropped in our inbox this morning announcing that US Airways has signed up to equip its planes with Aircell's Gogo WiFi.

According to the press release. US Airways "has committed to install Gogo Inflight Internet service on its fleet of 50 A321 aircraft," and although we won't see working service onboard until early 2010, it's better late than never. And what's even better than finally have in-flight WiFi? Knowing for sure that your flight is equipped with it when booking your ticket.

Already, since both Virgin America and AirTran have kitted out their whole fleet, you know it's a guaranteed amenity, but on other airlines you've either got to do your research or keep your fingers crossed. US Airways however, will show customers if Wi-Fi is available on a specific flight "when booking on the US Airways website, by looking for the Wi-Fi icon."

Since Gogo has a set pricing structure, ranging from $5.95 for red eyes and smartphone access up to $12.95 for a 24-hour period if you're taking more than one flight that day, we can expect US Airways to be just as affordable as the rest of 'em. Now if only Jetblue would get a move-on with updating and expanding their in-flight WiFi...
