Pet Airways Takes Off and 'Paws-engers' Seem Pleased

When we first heard of Pet Airways we honestly thought it was just a prank. We really wanted to believe, but were skeptical that we were being taken for a ride. That�s why we were actually pretty excited once we learned that it was the real deal, and yesterday, pets all over the country finally had their travel dreams come true. The pet only airline launched their first flights from Republic Airport on Long Island.

Although things just started yesterday, the demand for the airline seems to be pretty strong. The airline�s founders said that they�ve been overwhelmed with the public�s response to their new offering, and that flights had already been booked up for the next two months. Maybe it's time for them to add a second plane; for now, they're just starting with one that can hold about 50 four-legged friends.

Owners brought their pets from home to see them off on the inaugural flight, and so far everyone seemed very pleased. Some even suggested that their pets were being treated better on this airline than they were being treated on the traditional human airlines. We just want to meet the lucky pooch that got to roll up in an Escalade.

If Pet Airways doesn�t sound like something you need for your furry friend, you can always choose one of the commercial airlines to transport your pet. Petfinder just released their list of the friendliest airlines for pets, and Continental Airlines came out on top with their PetSafe program. However, Pet Airways is still the only airline that allows all animals to fly right in the main cabin, so we say give them a try.
