Where to Celebrate Bastille Day in New York

This Tuesday, July 14 marks Bastille Day, commemorating the 1790 Fete de la Federation, itself a celebration marking the storming of the Bastille prison one year earlier. In less complicatied terms, it’s the French Fourth of July, and we’re always happy to join in the celebration of anyone’s independence, as long as it involves a party.

If you can’t make it for fireworks from the Eiffel Tower, here’s where to celebrate in New York:

Take off work and join in the all-day party at Cercle Rouge in TriBeCa, starting with Petanque (bocce to non-Francophones) at 10am, followed by a baby foot tournament (we call it foosball) at 11am, with music all day and night.

In the evening, head over to Brasserie Les Halles in Midtown, where they’re serving up a Louis XVI-sized feast at populist prices, featuring stuffed roasted whole pig for four—for just $24.

Of if you’re looking for a less filling, more cultural Bastille Day experience, the Alliance Francaise is screening Claude Sautet’s 1970 film Les Choses De La Vie three times on Tuesday, at 12:30pm, 4 and 7pm.

Joyeux Quatorze Juillet!
