TSA's Response To Clear Questions: 'Not Our Problem'

July 1, 2009 at 12:37 PM | by JetSetCD | 2 Comments

It's quick and it's dirty, but it gets the job done; yes, it's the TSA Blog's Response to your Clear questions. Although most of the post is devoted to reminding people that this whole debacle is not TSA's problem, but Clear's and that's who should deal with it, they nonetheless remind us that two other such companies still function out there: Flo and Vigilant.

Beyond that, the TSA assures that the market for such expedited security cards is still open: "This is purely a market-driven, private sector venture offered in partnership with airports and airlines. Another vender could potentially take up the program."

If we are to believe Aviation Week however, Flo's CEO Glenn Argenbright is very much concerned for the customers Clear has left high and dry (and standing in long security lines) and wants to perhaps absorb Clear's 250,000 customers, some of whom are already taking it into their own hands. Says Argenbright: "I will acknowledge that we have received more than 1,000 inquiries from Clear customers and we are doing what we can to reconfigure our systems to address these new challenges."

Flo, with lanes in 21 airports already and another 5 on the way, could well be a viable option for rescuing paid-up Clear members set adrift. That is, only if Flo finds itself on more stable ground than Clear.

The TSA blog commented on something timely!

Clear claims private customer data is secure

The official email sent to Clear customers assures that the company will not sell customer's private data to mitigate their financial troubles to anyone other than another expedited airport security service provider though it seems to me they may be forced to sell that data in the event that they enter bankruptcy proceedings. We shall see...
