JetAmerica Does The Impossible: Sells 20,000 Tickets In First Week

As skeptical as we've been about new LCC JetAmerica and its plan to service secondary airports like South Bend, IN and Melbourne, FL, it seems as though travelers are biting.

Our people in Toledo, JetAmerica's soon-to-be hub city, called in to report that the local news is boasting of Jet America's ticket sales: 12,000 tickets sold in the first 48 hours after their website launched, a number that was expected to reach 20,000+ by the end of that first week.

People sure want to get out of Toledo, as they go on to say that the most recent sales figures "show that people who live within a 75 mile radius of Toledo Express Airport led the way with the most online reservations." And who can blame them, with $9 tickets to Florida and Newark/New York City?

But are there still $9 fares to be found? We searched random weekend dates for flights to Melbourne, FL in November, and came back with tickets ranging from the promised $9 all the way up to $99, and that's without taxes and fees and reserved seat costs. Get 'em while they're cheap, we suppose, since Jet America is sure to mount the 40,000 mark once they get their birds successfully up in the sky a month from now on July 13.

Jet Who?

How is it so many people who are connected with this industry have such fears that this airline doesn't exist?

I would feel A LOT better if they had a picture of a REAL plan and not computer generated.
