Air France Black Box Search Borrows The Titanic's Sub

It's been exactly a week now since the mysterious disappearance of Air France Flight 447 somewhere off the coat of Brazil. At first, it seemed as though the search parties were running around like chickens with their heads cut off, with no definite search area and not even a solid guarantee that the flight had hit the ocean.

Earlier last week, what appeared to be debris from the fatal flight had been found, but this was determined to be run-of-the-mill ocean trash on Thursday. As of this weekend, be-logoed Air France airplane pieces have been found along with the bodies of 17 passengers, therefore confirming that the plane met with a tragic fate.

But exactly what kind of events transpired to make this disaster? Perhaps we will know later this week as the big dogs are brought in: the deep-diving submarines. Particularly notable is the appearance of the Nautile onto the scene, a hardcore yellow beast of a mini-sub that has previously seen action on the Titanic site. Its current mission? Recover the airplane's black boxes some 13,000 feet down, with less than a month left before they "stop emitting signals."

Until then, however, the press will most likely be focusing on the four lucky Flight 447 passengers who either caught an earlier flight or were bumped from this one and thus saved. Their stories are a weak argument for being patient with ticketing snafus and eager taxi drivers, but it's something to think about next time the gate agent is fighting to bump you; we however hope we can keep these thoughts our head on our next flight.
