Where to Stay:
Oche & Brown, a small boutique hotel in the Psiri district of Athens, offers a great location with views of the Acropolis as well as excellent proximity to some of Athens’ best nightlife. The hotel’s warm décor and friendly staff doesn’t hurt either. Standard rooms start around $230.
Where to Eat:
Vizantino is located in the The Plaka, the oldest section of Greece, in the shadow of the Acropolis. Vizantino is a favorite of locals and tourists, not only because the menu comes in multiple languages, but also because the prices are reasonable, averaging less than $10 a plate. The restaurant's specialties are typical Greek fare: Souvlaki, Greek Salads and Moussaka.
What to See:
In the past, filming at the Acropolis was a major no-no because the Greek government considered it disrespectful. But cute-as-a-button Vardalos was able to turn on the charm and convince the Greeks that the movie would be great for tourism. The Acropolis is open to tourists from 8 A.M. until 7:30 P.M. daily in the summer months, admission is a pricey but worth it $17.
