Ryanair Will First Charge You To Pee, Then Take Away Your Toilet

June 5, 2009 at 9:47 AM | by JetSetCD | 2 Comments

It's back! Even though Ryanair's CEO Michael O'Leary would have us believe that their threat to begin charging to use the airplane bathroom never left the table, we still can't believe that this issue has resurfaced.

The pay-to=pee idea has returned because, after all of the laughing and "you're kidding, right?" died down, Ryanair has reaffirmed their commitment to bringing this incredibly miserly fee to the skies. Although no firm dates have been announced, O'Leary did say that it would be within the next two years, a time frame which could be moved up if Boeing quickly figures out a way to install credit card machines on stall doors.

For each use, passengers can expect to pay 1 Pound ($1.65), and who knows if there will be time limits.

And the penny-pinching only gets worse: since O'Leary figures that passengers won't be as liberal with their toilet visits, he's proposed removing two of the loos on their Boeing 737s for space to install six more seats. The actual explanation from the CEO is even more endearing: ""We are flying aircraft on an average flight time of one hour around Europe. What the hell do we need three toilets for?" And don't even get him started about ideas to put passengers to work in place of baggage handlers.

According to Today In the Sky, Ryanair's O'Leary has totally shot down at least one outrageous fee: the proposed idea to charge obese passengers more, like they were excess checked baggage.

We're a little scared of you now, Ryanair. First you charge us $60 for our boarding pass, then $1.65 to pee out the beverages for which we already paid $5. What's next? Harvesting our eggs in-flight? Because for that, we should at least get an extra complimentary can of Pringles.

    Will it happen?

Not so sure whether Ryanair will really be able to implement this or not. Of course, O'Leary's attitude has always been one of indifference towards the customer - and yet he still manages to succeed, because his fares are so friggin' low. People might resent Ryanair for the litany of fees, but O'Leary knows they'll because their prices are the best.

    Protest

I can think of one good, albeit disgusting way to protect (although it requires paying the fee).
