Do Not Tweet Your Theft Of Airline Lounge Food, Lest You Be Publicly Mocked

June 30, 2009 at 4:59 PM | by Omri | 0 Comments

We've been after you for months to start following the Twitter pages of airlines (to say nothing of, achem, following our account). You no doubt already know that LCC's like Virgin, JetBlue and Southwest tweet deals every day and are more than worth your time. But what about the big boys?

United is one of the major airlines with a regularly updated Twitter account, which they also use to announce Twitter-only deals. Keep that in mind as our story unfolds.

A little background. United's airport lounge is the Red Carpet Club, which they've managed to install in 28 airports around the world. NPR reporter Peter Sagal was hanging out in one of them a few days ago and tweeted the following:

Another day, another Red Carpet Club, another shocking number of bananas stuffed into my bag.

Less than 45 minutes later, @UnitedAirlines fired back:

@petersagal Put the bananas down and step away from the Red Carpet Club. We have been on to you for weeks. Does NPR not feed you?

Sagal responded, asserting that public radio does indeed heartlessly starve their employees. We kind of believe it. Forays into Las Vegas storm drains, yes. Fresh fruit, not so much.

In any case folks: this microblogging thing, we think it's here to stay (via Upgrade: Travel Better).
