This Weekend In the World: Giant Turkey Legs, Bachata and World War II

· Chicago
All we should have to say to convince you to attend the first weekend of Chicago's Taste of Chicago is "Midwest's Largest Food Festival." Yes, this shindig based around celebrating giant turkey legs, pulled pork sandwiches and vienna dogs incorporates all the greatest indigestion-inducing foods with some of the muggiest days of the year. And it couldn't get any better. Arm yourself with wet naps and head to Grant Park from June 26 through July 5; the busiest days happen right around the Fourth, so this weekend should be some good eating.

· Washington DC
With summer comes a season of non-stop happenings on the National Mall, and the next two weekends will see the 42nd annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival celebrating the food, music, and traditions of specific cultures. Intelligent Travel tells us that on deck this year is the music of the Americas, African American oral tradition, and everything Wales. The festival is free and open from 11am until 5:30pm, so pack up your rugby gear and bring a strong stomach.

· Birmingham, UK
Ok so technically the re-enactment of the Battle of Britain and World War II military encampment is happening just outside of Birmingham at Ashdown, but if you're in the area and looking to enjoy some military aircraft flyovers and 1940s burlesque, then this is the place to be. We've already do all the hard work of mapping it out for you; find this and more in our earlier story on the event.
