Bombs Bursting In Air: Top Three Cities to Catch Fourth of July Fireworks

New York City: Along the Hudson Riverfront
This year just happens to be the 400th Anniversary of Henry Hudson's sailing up the river which would eventually bear his name, and to celebrate this, Macy's is moving their notoriously festive fireworks celebration from the East River to the Hudson. This means that the nation's largest fourth of July display will practically pair up with the Jersey City celebrations, which blast over Liberty State Park, to create one awesome night along the river.

Best viewing of the Macy's display at 9pm will be from the Hoboken waterfront, and Liberty State Park's is obviously best seen from the park. We're going to compromise and hit up the pier jutting out from the Starbucks near the Pavonia/Newport PATH subway station in Jersey City.

Washington DC: On the National Mall
Stake your spot out extra-early for this one; the sight of fireworks exploding over the Washington Monument is something that warms the hearts of both tourists and locals, and you'll find all types spreading their blankets on the lawn as early as 9am on July 4, a full 12 hours before the fireworks commence at 9pm.

Since they pop nearly overhead, any spot on Mall without immediate tree coverage will work. The problem isn't getting a great view; it's sticking it out in your spot with limited access to bathrooms and refreshments.

San Diego: Mission and Pacific Beaches
Long ago voted as one of the top ten places to catch the Fourth fireworks, and the only city on the list representin' the west coast, San Diego rules for the beach party set.

Mission and Pacific beaches are where it's at, and you'll find plenty families packing piping barbeque grilled earlier in the day, if they haven't camped out overnight already. Bring your bathing suit, beer, and a big dose of patience, and you will be rewarded with the Big Bay Fireworks Celebration over the water at 9pm.
