Finland Makes Most Of Summer Sunshine With a Slew Of Music Festivals

If you've got it, flaunt it – that's what Finland seems to think about its summer midnight sun. Finland's taking the chance again this summer to hold a practically endless list of music festivals that can go late into the night without needing any lighting; how smart of them.

The funkiest of the fests is the Flow Festival, a contemporary music festival that fits as a companion to the multi-arts Helsinki Festival. Flow will ... well, flow from August 14 to 16, and feature Kraftwerk, Lily Allen, Grace Jones and dozens of other bands from every music genre you can name. Tickets for the full three days are €94 ($130).

For those with more specialized musical tastes, you could try the Pori Jazz Festival, taking place for the 44th year from July 11 to 19. Sadly, the Tom Jones plan didn't pan out this year, but if you head to the small town of Pori you'll still get a choice of over a hundred bands and singers.

Alternatively, wind down at the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in the middle of Finland near the Russian border. This festival runs from July 12 to 25 and includes over seventy concerts and other events, many of which take place during sunlit nights. Make the most of it all because once summer's over, the long, long dark descends on Finland and no smart musician will turn up on stage until next summer.
