Lounging at The Airport: Singapore Airlines Stuns With SilverKris

May 8, 2009 at 10:06 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

Airport lounges promise respite from the sad public seating at the gates and the unhealthy diet offerings of the terminal food courts. But of course, at a premium price. All week long at Jaunted we will be detailing what it costs to lounge at the best international airline lounges, because the domestic offerings that we featured last week got us dreaming of much, much more. Got any suggestions or tips? Let us know.

Singapore Airlines SilverKris and KrisFlyer Lounges
· How Much: The cost to get into Singapore Air's SilverKris Lounge or the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge really depends on how good of a "deal" you got on your ticket. The spoiled flyers, who refuse any class other than Suites, First, or Business will have no problem enjoying the swanky luxuries that the airline has to offer. If you're more cautious of ticket price and you only have KrisFlyer Elite Gold or Star Alliance Gold status, you are still allowed access to the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge—which is only a small step down in luxury compared to its big brother SilverKris lounge.

· Internet Access: The Internet here is served WiFi style and is free. Honestly, we wouldn't expect anything less from one of the world's best airlines.

Keep reading after the jump for more peeks at club perks.

· Beverages: There's plenty of free liquid courage available to get you through your flight. Beer, wine, and the requisite hard stuff are all in stock, but like Air France's lounges, you'll be serving yourself in some. We recommend brushing up on some trendy cocktail recipes before your travel day, so that you can move beyond the rum and coke and impress any hot loungemates. Or just fly out of London-Heathrow, where the Singapore Airlines lounge comes complete with bartender.

· Snacks: Buffet-style dining allows you to fill up on a selection of sandwiches, rice, noodles, chicken dishes, and spring rolls. We'd go straight to gorging ourselves with some of the crispy spring rolls, but there are many more choices including chips, crackers, and cookies.

· Other Amenities: This lounge doesn't disappoint with its selection of business-friendly gadgets. There are workstations, fax machines, soundproof telephone booths and plasma televisions, just in case you finish work early and want to catch up on Lost. If you're feeling a little sleepy however, make a pit-stop at the lounges in Singapore and Taipei, where you can get some rest in their Italian-leather slumberettes. To freshen up, take a shower in one of the private rooms, and don't worry, they provide better shampoo and conditioner than the Suave in your carry-on.

· What To Watch Out For:Some of the larger lounges have separate areas for the First Class and Business Class customers, which is great for avoiding your bosses if they're in first-class. The two lounges in Singapore-Changi are obviously the flagships of the brand, with Terminal 3 bad boy taking top billing with its marble walls. These two beauties are also open 24 hours a day for your lounging pleasure, but there are 14 others around the globe if Southeast Asia isn't on the itinerary.
