This Weekend in the World: Gardening and Art With Mom

May 8, 2009 at 4:11 PM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

· Washington DC: We sincerely hope you aren't forgetting that this Sunday is Mother's Day, and luckily those wishing for a short city escape can head to the Spring Garden Party at George Washington's Mount Vernon home. Provided that the weather is nice, there will be activities on both May 9 and 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If your mother appreciates old-fashioned hospitality and history, she'll be delighted with "18th-century-style musical groups," garden tours, colonial games and dancing, and early American gardening demonstrations. For more information, check out the About.com information page.

· Vienna: The Mother's Day love continues over in Europe during ViennaFair, when mothers can enter the contemporary art show for free on May 10 and enjoy free babysitting services. This show, which runs the whole weekend, focuses on Central and Eastern European artists, and usually costs 15.50 Euros per person for entrance. For more information, check out their site in English here.

· Sydney: Technically the Sydney Comedy Fest will run through next weekend as well, but some people just really need to laugh off Mother's Day. Taking over iconic Sydney venues such as the Opera House, Down Under's best comedians perform nightly, with an average show price of $17 AUD ($13 USD). Show schedules, directions to venues and more can be found on their official website.
