Pizza: In a town not generally lauded for its pizza, Galleria Umberto goes a long way towards giving Boston a good name. Their cheesy, Sicilian-style pies cut in square pieces attract lines out the door all day long.
Pasta: Okay, this may not be pasta quite like grandma made it, but the steamy hot bowls at Giacomo's are as fresh as we've tasted. They may also be filled with trendy ingredientsthink pumpkin tortellini and butternut squash ravioli they hit the tastebuds just right with a little wine.
Meats: If you're the kind of eater who doesn't like to leave Little Italy without some meats to bring home, Salumeria Italiana will more than do the trick. This 40-year-old meat shop turns out all kinds of prosciutto, salami, and pancetta, along with other to-go treats like olives, polenta and fresh mozzarella.
