Lounging at The Airport: Lots of Lufthansa Luxury

May 6, 2009 at 9:21 AM | by | Comments (0)

Airport lounges promise respite from the sad public seating at the gates and the unhealthy diet offerings of the terminal food courts. But of course, at a premium price. All week long at Jaunted we will be detailing what it costs to lounge at the best international airline lounges, because the domestic offerings that we featured last week got us dreaming of much, much more. Got any suggestions or tips? Let us know.

Lufthansa Lounges
· How Much: Just like British Airways, Lufthansa has a few lounges that cater to the different types of big spending travelers. The best of course are the First Class Lounges, accessible only with a First Class ticket or membership in the airline's HON Circle. Senator Lounges are pretty nice too, but technically a step down from First, and they'll be yours to enjoy if you're a first-class flier, a Senator Club member, or have gold status within the Star Alliance. Last but not least are the Business Lounges, those second homes of the frequent business flier. Here, any membership with the airline will get you in, or there's always the option of just ponying up the extra fare for a business-class ticket.
· Internet Access: WiFi is available in most lounges, thanks once again to T-Mobile HotSpots. However, unless you are in the HON club or are a First Class flier, it's going to cost you about $10 per hour to access the web—bummer for the business class ticket holders.

· Beverages: No matter which lounge you visit, you'll be greeted with plenty of options to slake your thirst and hydrate for the flight ahead. The usual soft drinks, beers, wines, and champagne are available free of charge—we'll start with the champagne, please. Typical spirits are also available, and at the First Class Lounges the bartender will create any concoction just for you. Better make it a mimosa.
· Snacks: The Senator and Business Lounges offer salads, bread, cookies, crackers, and yes—Haribo gummi bears. Since this is a German airline, there's plenty of sausage options as well, because it's never too soon to start stuffing yourself with meat stuffed in casings. If you're doing the First Class thing, you'll be able to sit back and select something from the seasonal menu that's to your liking. Of course all the freshly prepared meals will be paired with a nice wine (or three), to get you fully ready for your trip across the globe.
· Other Amenities: All the lounges feature an assortment of business machines and office products, so there's no excuse not to get that report to your boss or those vacation pictures to your grandmother. First Class passengers flying from Frankfurt will actually be taken to the ritzy First Class Terminal, where they will go through their own security line quickly and discreetly. A personal assistant will guide through every step of the way and ensure that every need is met. Make sure you request a jacuzzi reservation, as there's two of them in the lounge. However, if you want a beauty treatment at the spa, you will have to pay a little extra for it; it's only fair.
· What To Watch Out For: There are plenty of Lufthansa lounges all over the world, so the right one for you shouldn't be hard to find. In addition to Frankfurt, First Class Lounges can be found in Zurich and Munich as well. If you're lucky enough to be in Frankfurt, be sure to swing by the new Tower Lounge, where you can take in a great view of the airfield from the fifth floor. When you're sick of watching, sit back and relax in one of three Sonic Chairs, designed to surround you with music and induce relaxation.
