Single Slice Pizza Ban Gets DC All In A Tizzy

As we mentioned when discussing Portland's crazy late-night donuts, every city worth its table salt has an iconic 3 am drunk eating spot, and in DC that spot is Jumbo Slice, or more accurately, the several pizza places along 18th Street in Adams Morgan.

The oversize slice purveyors stay open until after all the bars close, which makes them perfectly poised to pick up business from the inebriated masses. In recent years, the pizza parlors have even grown to look like something of an after-party scene, with post-bar revelers milling about while furiously chowing down on the cheap.

As we're sure you know, it's usually not pretty when something comes between a drunk and his pizza, and just like at many late-night bars, it's not uncommon to see a scuffle break out now and again. Of course now a DC city councilman is looking to spoil the fun:

Ward 1 D.C. Councilman Jim Graham, who represents Adams Morgan, says the pizza parlors selling single slices along 18th Street, some of which are open until 4:30 a.m., are part of the problem when it comes a recent rash of street fights, stabbings, muggings and even a shootout involving two plainclothes police officers.

His proposal? Ban single-slice sales of pizza. Seriously. Just when DC was getting cool, the city up and tries to ban pizza? Think about this a little bit harder, Wash; there are Georgetown students and ambassadors even, who need their single slice fix and can't justify ordering a whole pie. What'll be banned next? Ice cream cones?
